Anyone ever have to decide between: leaving your current job to start a new job pregnant (but not showing) knowing you’ll have to take leave in 8-9 months OR wait and leave after parental leave? I need a change but I’m torn which path makes more sense.

Sometimes the new job will require 1 year of service before full parental leave benefits kick in (like EY) so you’ll just have to review benefits carefully if you get offers now.

I did. I accepted a job offer and next day had transfer which was successful. I started my job 5 weeks pregnant and it’s 20 weeks now. Still haven’t told anyone. I’m not eligible for FMLA. I’m eligible for short term disability and 2 months of leave from the firm which would otherwise be 3 months. HR has ways of adjusting it such that you get at least 4 months regardless of if you have 1 yr tenure or not. I will not get a 100% salary replacement which I would have gotten. My firm has unlimited vacay as well. I will use it. It’s a short term blip. Won’t angle for a promo this yr but having a baby this year is on top of my priority list of this yr. If they fire me given I have no fmla, I’ll find a new job and rant about them publicly. Hr is helpful though.
The way I see it.. I could wait in my prior firm which would give be 100% salary and 4 months leave + another 2 months at capped salary. But wouldn’t get promoted there too. And when I switched over next yr I would be too new in the new company to get promoted.

I work with great people. Really can’t say anything bad about my firm in general either. But…I still dislike the entire premise of law firm life, the billable hour, etc.. I’d love to work in a law school setting as a counselor or something but I can’t afford the pay cut. *sigh* Does anyone feel like being a lawyer is just doing homework all day? I do sales for a major engineering firm. Focused on new business and exploring new markets. Last year I was in the top 50% for order intake, and first in number of projects won along with number of new customers. I think this is extraordinary given the effort it takes to win new business.

For next year my goal increased by 2.5X, and less of what I bring in counts towards that target. I really enjoy my job but I will essentially be getting a large pay cut. Lost in what to do besides quit??

One of my out of state REs is suggesting that birth control for three weeks before having starting a cycle. I consulted with another RE previously and he noted that he doesn’t recommend birth control for too long when planning an ivf cycle since it can impact response to fertility medication.
