Anyone ever say screw private practice and take a job as a prosecutor? Were you more fulfilled? Was it a good move?

It's embarrassing to the profession to think that someone would consider being a prosecutor to work fewer hours. Don't take a job putting people in jail if you can't be bothered to take it more seriously and work harder than you do saving insurance companies a few bucks

It's one thing to consider the trade-offs of your work-life balance when you're representing corporate interests. It's another thing to consider trade-offs in your work-life balance when your work consists of putting people in prison for the rest of their lives for crimes that they may or may not have committed. I have no respect for prosecutors who take that job lightly or want to "go home early" because they're wanting a work life balance when they are making literal life or death decisions.

Prosecution isn't just a "job" ...it's not just "employment" ...that's why prosecutors are the only lawyers who get badges.

I quit my biglaw job to work for county government doing child welfare work. Best move I’ve ever made. I’m happier, more fulfilled, there are great benefits, and I’m still able to support myself in a comfortable lifestyle.

Your mileage may vary though, I get very fair compensation as a govt attorney. In some states or cities, the pay is absolutely terrible.

The judge I clerked for went from civil lit to federal prosecutor. He very much enjoyed the work and, in most markets, it pays pretty well.

Me! I did it and I love it. A much more relaxed culture and people don't give you the cold shoulder for asking questions or for help!

I am a prosecutor and I work very long hours for little pay.

Be prepared to work just as hard but for just a portion of what you probably make in private practice.

I know there are endless options in terms of what would govern this range, but what would be realistic to shoot for?
