Yuck. I do a 3-8 week course (40 or 50mg starting dose) about every year for a mystery arthritic flare, and the end of that is rough.
Week 1 - Not a lot of sleep, but smarter, funnier, and better looking than ever before
Week 2 - See above, flare mostly gone
Weeks 3 - Starting to look like a chipmunk and act like Gizmo after a midnight snack. Wife hates this part.
Taper to end - [insert Dave Chappel "Got any 'Vitamin P' ?!?" meme
Can barely imagine more than a few months; heart goes out to you, OP.
Thirded (or more) on getting a second opinion, and fast--the long term impacts are no joke.
Thin skin and weight gain
Yeah, I have a nice chipmunk face going for me right now. Been on prednisone for 7 months and probably will be for another 5....getting worried
Not a doctor, and don’t want to alarm you, but is highly recommend a second/third opinion. Long-term use ain’t so great.
I mean you're probably in a tough place but ya long term use is def only last resort
I have myasthenia gravis, it’s either prednisone or some other ridiculously serious immunosuppressant medication.
Sorry to hear that. Sounds like you don’t have any great options.
Don’t worry folks, life goes on and we just kew swimmin’ 🐠💪🏼
Volunteer for drug trials. Next gen treatments like JAK inhibitors will eventually be game changers for autoimmune
Can lead to weight gain, acute acne and a little shakiness with long term use. Probably other side effects too but I saw the above when a friend had to take high doses for an extended period of time for an AI disorder.
