Anyone every switched firms right after getting a promo? I’m thinking about this as a potential strategy to jump two levels in a short time. For example, if I get the promo to senior consultant next year, what’s stopping me from applying to manager roles at other firms 2-3 months after this promo?

Nothing. And people leave after promotion all the time. If you can use that to jump up that quickly, more power to you.

Nothing is stopping you! I have seen many do it. Get paid my friend you've earned it! Get paid

Sure but don’t just think about jumping through roles. What’s your target? My personal target is to build my own business. And to do that I can’t just jump roles that doesn’t help. I need to stick it out in a role and learn the business model and what I need to do to be successful in the long run. Don’t worry about these short term gains. You will be a manager when you meet the criteria of being one and just because another firm is willing to take you in doesn’t mean you are ready..

Right but I felt a need for acceleration from your end. Just wanted to say that in 10-15 years all of these things won’t matter. Accelerate your learning and don’t look for personal career validation from a role that a company offers you .

Depends on how confident you are in your current skill set, your ability to manage people effectively, and your ability to take on more accountability for the engagement
