Anyone exit into quant finance or trading? Had more traction during undergrad but it seems consulting has made me less attractive of a candidate?

They normally look for candidates with a background in math, physics, MIS, CS, etc. generally right from undergrad or MS/PhD. Tough to break into later in career (especially from a soft skills role like consulting).

Yeah I tried doing this not long ago and same experience (had one interview at a buy side fund but didn’t make it very far) - those jobs require a very specific skill set and it seems that I’ve just become less sharp at my math the more I stayed in consulting. I ended up applying to a MS/MFE that places decently well into those roles. Hoping that would shift the tides a bit, but at the same time PhD might be better off ... kind of regret not further pursuing my math degree after undergrad. I enjoyed it far more than my time in consulting

Yea I figure. I tried doing probability and leetcode questions the other day and found myself to be waaay slower than I was couple years ago

It’s true if you don’t get into finance right out of school, it’s hard to get in later. Many go MBA for a second shot at this path

True but you can get into trading from Mba. Point being it’s hard to pivot if you didn’t get in right out of school

I currently work in Tech Consulting on the software implementation side with 2 YOE. I don’t see myself long term in this area and am interested in pivoting to strategy and potentially business school along the way. Does anyone have advice for the best way to prepare and land a role for someone who doesn’t have a strong strategy background?

Suppose you are 3 months pregnant and interviewing for a job. Would you disclose to the recruiter that you are expecting or is there no need to give that information until after being hired? As for the compensation, if you’ve already been told pre-interview, the salary range for the role, is it appropriate to negotiate a number for the salary if you are asked your desired salary in the first screening interview? Or should you try to hold off on the negotiation after you receive an offer?

I'm an experienced Generalist/HRBP for an extremely high volume/large org. I have a masters in HROD and SHRM-CP. My role is getting to be more and more transactional by the day, all my strategic projects get pushed to the side by the endless daily fires that are, inevitably, tracking down employees and data entry. I'm actively looking for a new role (preferably Sr generalist etc), but can't seem to stand out among the crowd. Any tips? Louisville, KY.

Hello! It seems this bowl is not very active but I'd like it to be. So here's my story: Born & raised in PR, moved to CA for undergrad & have been here since then. I graduated from law school in 2019, followed by a 2 yr bk clerkship. I did the evening program. I really enjoyed law school, in spite of the microaggressions, the late nights, & crazy competition. Love all things diversity in the law. Anyway, currently looking for a position in NYC/DC area. 🤗

Hello I am curious to know what people think of getting a masters degree in Data Science. I am looking at a program that is 32k which compared to others is not as expensive. I have experience with python and I work on my own projects but no professional experience. I am finding it extremely hard to break into an entry level data analyst role. I am hoping that a master degree would help with that process.

I had a surgery for ectopic pregnancy about two weeks ago and I’m still insanely tired. To add before the surgery, I was given one dose of methotrexate and my hemoglobin tanked from 13.8 to 10.8 between the first blood test ( May 1st week) and the last ( June 1st week). I think my tiredness is cause by a mix of low hemoglobin, methotrexate, and surgery. Any advice on how to get my energy back would be appreciated.
