I lived in the area for ten years. Gentrified-ish but sort of low on amenities. Generally safe.

Not a lot of bars/restaurants in the IMMEDIATE area — you’ll need to walk down Tompkins or over to Nostrand or Bedford to do anything, but there’s a lot of good stuff (Warude, Lovers Rock, Peaches, Chicken Feastin, Do or Dive, Pilar, Shipwreck, 750 Myrtle). Von King park is charming and a good place to hang out. The public pool is invaluable on hot summer days.

Buy earplugs. Summer nights are filled with great music but parties tend to run late.

I sincerely miss U Like Chinese and Willoughby General, on opposite corners of Marcy/Willoughby.

Well, re: transport — the G train is it. That’s it unless you want to hike to the M at Flushing Ave or the J at Myrtle Broadway (😬). It’s a reliable train during rush hour. Otherwise it’s an area well served by buses.

3200 for a 1bed in the area feels abnormally high unless your building has major amenities. My old apartment (pre war stabilized 1bed w/dishwasher) was renting for about 1800 a few months back, and even that was on the cusp of being a bit too much for the area IMO.

Pretty nice and gentrified.

First review is coming up. Tips for survival? I fully expect it to be terrible. I am not happy here, I never have been, I don't want that to come across in the review, and I just want to make it out of the meeting with a small amount of grace. My plan is to just nod along and say thanks, will work on. I am also insanely busy right now and this is the last thing I want to deal with.

Any recommendation for a solo trip in the U.S? I’m 27F, petite, Asian American, don’t drive so renting a car is out of option :/ I love good food, city, nature, adventure, chilling in beach, etc. Basically everything lol I would like somewhere that’s relatively safe to travel solo, don’t need a rental car (Uber or public transport is ok), and has good things to do there. Needing your help!

Boyfriend has seemed to be dropping a ton on me lately, even after I got bad news that my company is t doing so hot this week and layoffs are approaching. First it was that we may be moving to another state for his job, then it was that his brother may need to move in with us for a few months after he graduates

It’s just a bit overwhelming at this time and I’m not sure how to communicate through all of this being thrown at me. 3 yrs together and we were friends for many years before that.
