Anyone feel safe flying yet? Mother is insisting I fly instead of renting a car for holidays. I don’t see the point in risking my health.

Recently flew united and can’t say it was a pleasant experience. The plane was packed and many people were coughing/ eating on the plane. I wore multiple masks in an attempt to be safe. Luckily it was a short flight. I know many people say flying is much better with the new safety precautions but I Didn’t feel very secure. That being said, I am still planning on flying during the holidays because I am heading up north where the roads and weather will likely be unpredictable. this time around I am sitting in a seat that has no one next to me. I also intend to get a face shield and be that person.

like

I flew and wore an N95 mask - N95 masks protect you and others while cloth masks only protect others, so wearing one is justifiable since it’s guaranteed at least some people on the flight will not believe in COVID and will spend 50 minutes sipping on a can of Coke. I also wore a face shield. They’re great for peace of mind - some people at the airport, believe it or not, are removing their masks to talk on their phones and that helps block their filthy spit. Also it guarantees you won’t touch your face inadvertently. You’re guaranteed to get a few looks but whatever, you’re barely recognizable anyway. And you’re not interfering with anyone’s business.

like

Take extra precautions, wear kn95 masks, face shields and gloves. I also wore a lab overall. For hand carry, laptop etc, take cut out garbage bags to place on the tray before you place your stuff for security. Your hand carry can also go in a garbage bag which you can throw at the airport once you land. Take clorox wipes in a zip loc bag and wipe your seat and belt before you sit. Delta even offers you back seats if there are less people at the rear end since not everyone is as concerned about their health or that of the others (will uncover their nose despite the flight attendants warnings). Keep using hand sanitizer

CNBC reported yesterday or the day before that pretty much nobody is getting sick from flying

It’s also the airports and the volume of people on the flight, some who get unruly and don’t want to put their masks on. No thanks.

It’s higher risk than driving a car. Flying itself might be fine but you’ll come in contact with a lot of people while traveling. And cases are definitely going to be higher in November/December than they are now. I’d drive over flying.

Why does it matter so much to her how you get there? If you feel more comfortable driving, then drive.

I recently flew Delta and am still shocked by how comfortable I felt. I was pretty nervous beforehand. No one sits in middle seats, I wiped everything down, and I wore a KN95 mask. Planes are without a doubt cleaner now than they ever have been

I had choice between 12 hour drive with family or a 2 hour flight. I went with flight as felt safer and the airports are empty. But have you seen the gas stations and rest stops. They are packed so feel like get more exposure and from a broader geographic area driving than flying.

I’ve flown three times during Covid. Delta and southwest have the most stringent safety measures in place. I didn’t feel any less safe than I do in the grocery store.

Wear a mask + face shield + don’t touch anything. You’ll be fine

How exactly do you not touch anything?

Fly delta. Alway a space between each seat

Yes. Went to Mexico, it was perfectly safe on the plane. More people on the roads now, so driving is riskier. Get a comfortable mask and fly.

Took this the other day, felt like it was much safer than when I flew in June. People take safety a bit more seriously.

I’d be curious for peoples thoughts on permanent life insurance. We’re early 30s, 2 kids. We can very likely comfortably afford the big up front investment for the next 15 years or so. It feels like putting the money to work in equities is a better play but don’t want to write this off if it’s worth it. Right now I’d say our net worth is around 1.5 with 55% equities. 30% home equity, 10% preferreds, 5% cash.
