Anyone find it suspect when some Partners throw around "I'm sure we all would prefer to be in person..." type things? Like do you hate your family or something? Maybe I'm getting to used to remote work 😬

Yup, my partners are all about ‘needing that personal connection’ 🙄

Most corporate cultures have traditionally punished introverts and rewarded extroverts. It shouldn't come as a surprise that the extroverts at the top now want to go back to having everyone work together in person.

I’m virtually certain that the partners and even admin staff at my firm are being told to tell everyone else how excited they are to go back, can’t wait. It’s such BS.

Not really. I like going into the office. I like the home / work separation. I also like commuting to the city from the 'burbs. Just love the vibe of being in the city. I also like working with my team members in-person. I also like the flexibility to WFH when I need to or want to. It does not have to be all of one or all of the other.

like

Not really.... I really hate working long hours or under high stress while at home. At least at work I could get somebody to buy me pity pizza or something. At least then I could also get a layer of separation.

like

Nope. Love family however I like going in, leave laptop at work, work with teams. It was hell WFH, all the extra meetings, phone calls about meetings to discuss meetings before and after such meetings, calls from bosses to check in. Jesus please nope, not again, stop checking in. In the office? I see you, yeah I just saw you, you see me, no words or additional words. Lemme do my work and give me a raise because you can see me working hard. 🤣

This fight has gotten real! I’ve been offered a job, advertised as remote, but they want to have a blended program with teachers on campus. Small school, 10-15 to a class... maybe, masks ( I’ll have to ask if they’re mandatory), distancing and a continuous cleaning staff. Sounds great but I’m 62 with 5 underlying conditions! Have to negotiate a contract Monday... I’m hoping I’ll be able to work on-line as NV is one of the growing hotspots in this Pandemic!

Partners: looking for advice on how to articulate my story of being laid off from the strategy arm of a Big 4 in August. I was a strong performer (above expectation across all areas: util., sales, managed rev, project reviews, and upward feedback), and was told it my was tenure (<1 yr at firm), comp range, and a low forecasted dept. rev, that played a part. When I tell this story, I get the sense that it is “hard to believe”. Why would a firm lay off a high performer. Any thoughts?

Do you think an MBA is only really worth the exit options immediately post mba? I just hear everyone obsessed with rankings but tbh in 10 years, outside say Harvard, they will have changed. My Alma mater undergrad was a top 20 school that has fallen for example. I chose it because it was the best in my local area but who cares given i don't live in that geographic local anymore. Other schools that I didn't even consider have risen up.
