Honestly there's nowhere much cooler within 4 hours. Sometimes the Texas panhandle will be cooler than us, but it's hit or miss. I'd say to get noticeably cooler you're going to have to get to a higher altitude in new mexico or Colorado. Summer just sucks in Texas.
Unfortunately TX is such a large state that you won’t be able to drive someplace cooler unless you extended your trip. Santa Fe is the closest I’ve roadtripped for cooler climate (I went for a ski trip), however that drive took me roughly 9 hours.
Summers in Texas are the worst. But at least it’s dry heat in DFW, unlike Austin and Houston.

If you can stretch that a bit- Santa Fe has cooler weather. Also, Palo Duro Canyon in the panhandle is legit!
Pretty sure this doesn’t exist... sorry :/ going up to Colorado would be your best bet, or just flying up north if that’s an option
What about Arkansas?
Ozarks?

Not really much cooler in Arkansas. It’s just 🔥 In Texas. What are you looking for exactly? A quick vacation? I hate Texas summers but when the pools are open and you can jump into the springs, the heat isn’t as bad.

Honestly- if you’re ok flying (most flights are empty now) you can fly RT for like $60 to a lot Of cooler cities from DFW or Austin.
