Anyone from the states ever work in the Netherlands? What was it like? Also, what was the process like to obtain a working permit/visa?

I live in the Netherlands. It’s a fairly easy process if a company sponsors you (which is neither expensive nor a bureaucratic nightmare). Plenty of Americans living here. Great quality of life, nice people, good healthcare, good tech and startup scene, most agencies have offices in Amsterdam. But very very different pay structure, expect to make less but you also don’t need as much as in I.e. NYC. The big accounts and budgets are usually in the US or London so work is a bit more local...but that doesn’t mean it’s less fun . Most Americans that I meet in Europe have a hard time leaving...main reason is usually to be closer to family. Other than that, Amsterdam is charming and chilled AF once you escape the touristy city center.

CSI 1 - No you don’t need to be able to speak/read Dutch to move and work there. It’s a good idea to make friends with Dutch people or expats who can though, and of course to take courses so you can be more independent (plan on a year of night classes to get confident). There are a lot of times when you’ll run into communication issues or receive emails, official letters, tax communications etc in ‘t Nederlands where it’s important. It’s easy to adapt to different working styles - if you’re an adaptable person. Big agencies tend to have plenty of foreigners too. I’m happy to hear you are open to integrating - a lot of English speaking expats there are too lazy or arrogant to bother. It’s a shame for them, because living in Amsterdam is a much more rewarding experience when you do!
