Most people should invest in low cost index fund and total market etfs. If you want to get a better return than that you either need to spend a great deal of time creating and executing a value investment strategy by finding undervalued stocks,
Or you need to get very lucky on options penny stocks or forex. essentially gambling.
Thereâs always the Jersey shore.
Invest in what you canât do without. Thatâs why FAANG stocks do so well (Facebook, Amazon, Apple, Netflix, Google). Also, remember this is a long-term investment. Donât freak out and pull out the first drop you see. Be patient, and generally hold your stocks unless you think the company is going the wrong direction.
E1 is completely right. Keep it simple, look at the long term. Barely anyone beats the market average over time
If you match the market average returns but at a below average cost then with time your overall returns will always be above average. This is an ideal scenario and perfectly possible with low cost diversified broad index funds. Better to be guaranteed to get rich slow than hope to get rich quick

I second the tip of buying stocks in companies you personally love, but Iâm not a financial advisor.
What do you dinks think an index fund is? Itâs a collection of individual stocks
@ACD1- yes they are a collection of individual stocks but diversified across categories and business models (depending on the index). That is why they are less risky than individual stocks
Regarding the FAANG stocks, I think it would be really awkward for the acronym if Netflix went out of business.
Donât be stingy now
As of today, anything offering online gambling, ie, Churchill Downs
Howâs about individual stocks
Am curious, how would you know if it was a good stock tip ?
Lots of professionals will be analyzing with their smart brains too. 50 percent will be right and 50 percent will be wrong . Individual stocks are pure speculation unless they are part of a portfolio. Without details of your portfolio any individual stocks pick may duplicate or multiply your current risk for limited benefit

If I see anyone here recommending individual stocks, that will terrify me of whatâs to come
