OK. Our firm doesn't government contracts and construction law, so this sometimes comes up, and we look to other firms for backup. Isler Dare is who I go to for employment law assistance. They have experience with federal employment. But they mostly rep employers. Lori Turner is fantastic. At a minimum, she'd have a good referral.

We've been up against Melehy and Associates in the employment context before when we rep employers, and they are an absolute pain to be against. So I guess if I were a plaintiff, that'd be good.

Good morning! I feel I see some posts about people who are leaving the corporate world to become self-employed. However, I’m the opposite. I have been self-employed for four years, I had trouble getting a job out of college so I became a freelance personal assistant. I had to take care of a sick relative and work from home while doing so. I don’t feel competitive in this market place. Does anyone have any success stories from going self-employed/under employed to employed?

I work for a CPA firm, 45-50 employees, and we're looking at expanding our benefits package. Right now, we only offer 2 or 3 weeks vacation, 1 week paid sick time, healthcare, 401(k) with profit sharing, and Life/Long-term disability coverage. No dental, no parental leave, no ST disability, no EAP etc.

Could anyone else in this industry, or in another professional services industry, weigh in on what benefits you offer and which ones are most popular?

Thanks all!!

I have a first year copywriter who is good and doing all the right things for a junior. However, she (naturally) makes mistakes and still has a lot to learn. However, she sets constant last minute meetings with me for feedback, which is basically her way of getting more validation and reassurance. I’m getting sick of it. I have told her if I have feedback, she’ll get it (which she does). It hasn’t even been thirty days since she started! What should I do? I’m a very nurturing and easygoing boss.

Hey fellow designers,

Is anyone else facing the brunt of working in a service based company and trying to move to a startup product company being dragged down by the 90 days notice period.

I have had a couple of interviews with good startup product companies where the main issue is my 90 days of notice period. Most startups simply run away at the mention of 90 days NP.

Even established product companies shy away at this. Has anyone recently switched despite this long a notice period?

Need some advice for investing, I make a base salary of 180k - meaning after taxes and 401k etc I take home 9k per month. Child care , living expenses - 4-4.5k, investments in india - 2.5k, I have up to 2-2.5k left every month. Should I be putting all of it in ETFs ? That would be about 33%-25% of my salary. I put my bonuses and stocks in savings accounts and CDs for my kid. Thoughts? Thank you!
