Maybe don't go for therapy and psychiatry -- I see an 'ADHD coach' and its done wonders. She herself has adhd and it means she knows the struggles and can say what's helped her and why, then work to find a more personalised strategy for me. Online resources are also amazing, it's a brilliant community -- I'd suggest howtoADHD on YouTube to help understand why our brains do the things they do. Best of luck!
Therapists don’t really believe in the diagnosis. You should speak and work with a psychiatrist
I agree. My past 10 years dealing with adhd after finding out I had it I’ve found this true also. It’s good to find one that deals with adhd patients regularly. They seem to be more familiar and resourcefully helpful
I found that searching for “neurodivergent” as a specialty will select people who are actually knowledgeable about ADHD / autism rather than people taking one short class on it so they can have ADHD listed on their profile
That being said, it limits the pool a ton
Do you have a health care system in your area? If so, reach out to their behavioral health department for providers in their system that work with ADHD.
I found a really good therapist. But that was after years of really bad ones or therapists who I felt didn't really help me. Hang in there and keep looking. You will find someone but it does take time.
