Anyone had skin issues due to drinking or had issues clear up after stopping drinking? 40F and drink about 2 beers most days and have uneven skin tone, hyperpigmentation, blotchiness, and red spots (not pimples, they are small and not raised) on my cheeks. Not sure if its the beer or the age or both.
How is your exercise? One thing that happens when drinking is that activity tanks and that can lead to skin problems even if the beverage doesn’t.
Not related to drinking but have seen improvements from prescription retinol
Have you consulted a dermatologist. It could be rosacea or try face mapping which gives and idea of an internal issue that may case face breakouts. Rosacea can be caused by inflammation which could be from a number of things. With beer, if you are drinking it regularly, have you had any other issues with gluten that could be linked to it? When my skin starts to tell on me I do a liver cleanse and change my diet for a few months and things start to return to normal.
sounds a lot like rosacea. rosacea can be heightened by things like alcohol, dairy, fried foods, sugar, and other inflammatory foods. going to a dermatologist and getting a medicated cream for rosacea has really helped me out a ton without having to make huge lifestyle changes.
I have the same thing, not drinking related. I got prescribed Azelaic acid (I think you can find it over the counter too) and it worked wonders on my red spots!
Once I hit 35, I started getting rosacea flares. It’s common for some to start around that age range. Also if you’re light haired and fair skinned. Perhaps Scandinavian heritage? For me, I’m all three! Super (not) fun development. Mine flares from too much sun so I wear sunblock everyday and hats when I’m outside for long stretches. Azelaic acid and retinol both help sooth mine as well. Currently using OTC - Cerave Resurfacing Retinol and Naturium Azelaic Acid (sold at Target and their site).
My skin got so much better when I quit drinking, but then again I was pushing bottles of wine a day not two beers.
As we get older, our skin also has a tendency to thin out because of loss of collagen and other factors which would contribute to seeing more redness and uneven blotchiness surface. Do you wear sunscreen? Always good to slather on the UV protection.
Not drinking related, but have had most of these, including acne scarring. I've been doing microneedling-collagen induction therapy(dermapen). My skin has not looked better in ages. It's more even, brighter and I also had melasma on my chin which has decreased a lot. I've only done 3 sessions (last one this week) and will continue with more sessions in the fall. Plus it also makes my skin firmer. Do read about it.
