as k him how does he want to keep informed going forward. Maybe your update is too frequent and the content you are telling him is not something he really care about.
Perhaps he is very busy on other projects and trusts you with the one you are working on. I would be more concerned if a) he takes credit for your work or b) blames you when things go wrong as a result of his lack of review....which you may feel is already the case
I appreciate that he trusts me to get the project done without his involvement, but how do I keep myself motivated when it feels like the person managing the revenue doesn’t even care about it getting done?
Get over it. You’ll see more and more of this as you move up and will probably do the same at some point when you are a manager. How do you know for sure he doesn’t care? Maybe that’s just your perception
This happened to me recently. Management above me didn’t care what I was doing and didn’t care to get status updates (which was fine by me, I liked the trust and not being micromanaged) but it ended up bad for that manager above me. In short, Managing Director level took notice and fired that person. So even if your manager doesn’t care, those above them are watching and taking note. I ended up getting promoted, so keep working hard and it will pay off.
I guarantee that one thing is not why the manager got fired. I’d bet the manager started backing off stuff cuz they were getting something else lined up. If ur not getting the support u need to get the work done you gotta raise ur hand. Otherwise recognize that all managers have different communication preferences. Just ask what we want and give us that.
