Anyone have a sense of whether MBAs are as receptive to cold outreach from BA/BS alumni from the same university as they are to outreach from fellow MBA grads? For example, if I did my undergrad at UChicago, can I expect a decent reception when doing cold outreach to Chicago Booth alumni for career networking?

Honestly, MBA schools and undergrad schools are usually completely separate, so I don’t think it’ll hold weight. Wouldn’t discourage you from trying though - cold outreach is a numbers game!

But make sure the message is tailored and sincere. I’ll respond to every dm that isn’t generic and shows they’ve done their homework first. Unfortunately that’s not the majority of them.

Depends on the context probably. But when I was at Wharton I thought it was sus when undergrads reached out to me to learn about consulting at McK with no other common thread than the school - like McK hires tons of Wharton undergrads and has a strong OCR presence, why are you reaching out cold to me for basic info instead of one of your classmates who did an internship/got an FT offer, or recruiting?

But if I had a more unique career path they wanted to learn about or the person had a specific reason to reach out to me, I would’ve been much more amenable

I’m and MBA and receptive to all connections. I think it shows initiative to try and progress.

Hello! I have a two part question: 1) is it worth it to obtain an SHRM specialty credential if I don’t have the broader SHRM certification? 2) has anyone gotten the People Analytics or Talent Acquistion credential? If so, how valuable was it from a learning perspective? Do you feel it significantly contributed to your knowledge in either area? Thank you!

I have been looking at the curriculums for Harvard Business School's Master of Business Administration and Harvard Extension School's Master's in Management. They both have the same requirements, generally speaking, including a field immersion course that serves as a capstone in the Master's in Management, which is fairly new. If I am not able to gain admission to Harvard Business School, but wanted a similar educational experience to become a consultant, should I attend Harvard Extension?

Hello all! I’m currently in the last year of my MBA looking for a Pt role related to sustainability, renewable energy, ESG, and clean tech. I have over 5 years of managerial experience and have worked in construction, consulting, non profits, and start ups. Let’s connect!

Currently job hunting. I know a few retired C-level executives who tell me that they would hire me at the director level in pretty much any role (despite currently being an individual contributor) because I'm extremely driven, a life-long learner, a natural leader, and deeply educated in diverse fields (PhD in engineering and MBA in analytics). However, I can't seem to land a senior role. How do I convince an executive to take a gamble on me based on my past success and strong future potential?

Update on my boss-adjacent, hot F Director who made the “tied down” comment/hint/signal/joke - she scheduled a “work dinner” at 6:30pm today for me and her to chat about the strat deck I’ve built as a follow up from yesterday’s meeting. Anyone think she saw me blush lightly at her comment yesterday and she’s making a move, or is this strictly work related?

Can anyone relate? If I’m stressed out, I can’t focus on my tasks because my productivity is driven by creative and explorative thought. And then there’s the whole dopamine addiction issue with doing a small amount of work then hopping on social media because you feel like you need the reward. Just me?
