How do you navigate getting a referral on a platform like this? Genuinely curious on if HR/Recruiting asks how you know the person you're referring, or if they don't care where the referral comes from.

You could consider payment tiers. For example, X payment for 3 months of employment and Y payment for 1 year of employment after a successful hire. This was the practice in my previous company. This lowers cost for referrals who end up being a poor fit. I agree with Ditto Technologies, cash is still the best incentive for referrals. Gift cards and PTO also work.
