Anyone have an MPA or MPP? Would like to hear how it's helped you in your career. Currently debating whether I should go for one/MBA or grad school altogether

I have a MPA. Helpful with federal clients where legit policy work (or policy focus) is important. Just the fact that I'm not the millionth Comp Sci Master's or MBA sets me apart. All that said, consulting firms don't know how to value non-MBA degrees, so it might not be the best financial play, especially depending on what work you do. The reality is though that you should study what you have a passion for.

Seems like you will be having to explain what and MPA or MPP is and why you didn’t get an MBA. My school switched from MPPA to MBA just before I got there and people said they had a harder time with the talking point and getting in the door. Just my 2 cents

I have an MPA. I get pulled in for local public sector proposals and orals from time to time but otherwise no difference. I work in an area where having/not having an MBA isn’t a huge deal though. I’m glad I did an MPA and still have goals to get into more public sector work - but it is less flexible- from what I’ve seen, you can get into most public sector doors with an MBA, but fewer private sector doors with an MPA (at least without some explanation of what an MPA is... 🙄).

Thanks for sharing. How has the MPA really helped you? I switched to industry already (education) and my background leans more tech-heavy so I want to see how to work with policies and a more business-oriented mindset plays in my line of work

I have an MPP-type degree (technically an MSPPM) and, since I wanted to do federal policy, it’s been helpful. The program also offered a lot of MBA-type courses, so I don’t feel like I’m missing out by not having an MBA, especially because I have no idea yet if I’ll ever exit to industry, where my degree will be more useful than am MBA. The degree was also useful because it did bump me up a level at my firm.

Has anyone tried EMDR to deal with childhood traumatic experiences? I'm not talking about things like physical abuse etc. but due to separation from parents at a young age which was driven by circumstances and decisions parents made. Due to this, I don't feel much connection with my parents. It has impacted my romantic relationships and causes constant anxiety at work because I feel like a helpless child inside, lack confidence and self worth and fear failure. Appreciate any EMDR experiences.
