Affecting my reviews and performance. I ask for books bc having something to go back and reference is really helpful to me. Any other recs you have also appreciated!!

Ever thought of talking to a counselor? They can work with you on stuff like this. Plus sometimes it's just good to talk to someone outside of work/family/friends. KPMG has lifeworks, which gives a referral and 5 free sessions with a counselor.

While not a book, try this as a start. I'm not exactly going through what you are but have dealt with things along the same line in the past http://firstround.com/review/when-fear-is-a-competitive-advantage-4-steps-to-make-it-work-for-you/

Is it work team? If your team is negative change the team.

Thanks K1 we might have something I'll look into it. It'll def help to talk to someone help build up my confidence with this.

@P1 in my group we don't have PPDs who are actively focused on developing young talent. But I've managed to find a team that is & that values my work product. It's mainly bc of life exp. I've had so many exp where I've been chastized, ostracized, or cast aside for my opinions & actions that my mind now goes blank when I try to speak up at work. The experiences changed me for the better but have contributed to anxiety bc this job means a lot to me. What if I really fuck up and everything goes to shit? (mind this is my first real full time job)

Just come prepared to meetings and contribute. Everything won't go to shit.

Thanks y'all!

What's with the saturation of self help/ productivity books on social media (reddit, Instagram etc.) ? Not saying I don't mind reading them, but I see this quite a bit. Ok so. I have been on this journey for almost a year now to try and 'get to know and love myself' and I'm not there yet. I separated from my ex in March of 2020 and divorce was finalized in October 2020. I'm still sad, lost, angry etc. I'm trying/tried therapy, meditation, ayurveda, self help videos, books, but I'm not happy with myself and I don't think I know myself. I want to be happy alone before I meet anyone new. Any tips or advice on how I can effectively accomplish this? Thank you!

I’m depressed. Nothing unique about my depression - I’m in big law, my career defines me, when I’m not working I can’t find the will to get off the couch, I’m sad or I’m numb…I know I’m the only one that can make a change to my life…I’m on antidepressants. Just extremely unmotivated and paralyzed. Self-help books are not for me, but I am curious - has anyone tried a guided depression/anxiety journal? Any recommendations if so? Or, if you have experienced the same, what steps did you take?

Girlfriend has very obvious high functioning anxiety and body image issues that she admits but thinks she doesn’t need therapy or medication and that reading self-help books will help her. It’s not changing in the last several years and it’s impacting our relationship. Anyone have experience with their SO dealing with untreated anxiety? I know I can’t control her but would like to express my feelings without sending her into a spiral. For context, I’ve been in therapy for 12 months and medicated

I’ve suffered from workaholism for a long time. Thanks to a lot of great self help books and therapy, I’m no longer putting work on a pedestal and I’m spending a lot more time on self care and my marriage. But, unfortunately, I am now getting withdrawals, because my body is used to the daily adrenaline of throwing myself into work. It’s this terrible feeling of like anguish/unease in my gut, but I don’t have anything I’m worried about- it’s like my body wants to find something to worry about.

My therapist just told me I'm depressed..do you ever feel like they tell you things you hear a lot or could have figured out on your own? Like take care of yourself, it's ok to feel such and such, etc. I'm still newer to therapy so wondering if that's the common experience? Do you ever have moments where you're like wow that actually is eye opening and I wouldn't have gotten that from reading self help books and websites etc?
