Need a sanity check. I've got an offer at a mid sized biotech - SM level, $165k + 15% bonus + 15% RSU (annual award so won't come into the picture into year 2) and a $22k sign on bonus. From what I understand, that's good comp (MCOL area) for the title, but as an EM at a life sciences consulting firm (10 YOE), I feel like I should shoot more for AD or D level.
If I take the offer, is it realistic to look for a director offer in a couple years, or would most companies target AD after SM?
I need help figuring out my ideal comp. applying for a business development associate role with a biotech company in Vancouver. Roughly 45 employees. Started from China, now well expanded in US and Canada. The BD team is 3-4 people which means decent work load. I have 3+ years of research/life sciences experience and 1+ year of strategy/consulting.
I’m confused what should be a good range for me. Please help!

Thinking about exiting to Thermo for a strategy role. Other biotech/pharma companies aren’t hiring for strategy positions at the moment and I was wondering how this would look in MBA applications. It’s a big company, but so niche.
Interviewing with a NYC based small pharma/biotech. They will not provide salary or a range, leaving me to shoot first. It’s a senior manager roll on a commercial team and would be 2nd person on the specific team reporting into a director.

Think hard before moving. I had the exact same background as you before transitioning into consulting. Mixed bag so far. The skillset in consulting is very different and your technical skills aren't as valued as you may think.
Thanks! How did you make the transition? we are struggling to figure out the best strategy to determine next move. This is for my partner who isn’t eligible for FB :)
The obvious is network both inside and outside their current firm.
Be the go to guy to represent the team to the rest of the company. Look for ops to engage clinical and commercial, as that is where most of the consulting action is. It will help them figure out what consulting they want to do, what their value add is (it is no longer a sterling publication record), and how is consulting for their firm. Then try to engage those consultants to show you are smart and want to learn.
Honestly almost the only thing I took to consulting from my PhD is the ability to speak doctor and read the literature. You have to learn every else over again.
I would network with small firms. But note that some offer very different services: commercial, regulatory, competitive intelligence, r&d. Etc
