Anyone have any experience doing strategy consulting for video games companies (e.g., Blizzard) and/or exiting to a video games company in a strategy role? What does this look like?

Have been doing healthcare strategy work for 2 years and did some introspection into what my actual interests are and what I might actually enjoy doing, and I used to be an avid MMORPG gamer and perhaps doing strategy work for games companies like this would actually be fun/feasible. Don’t have CS background

I’ve done some work here. Two main ways in: M&A and monetization/pricing analytics.

like

Amazing!! Can you elaborate on both, and what types of companies/products you were working for?

For example, for monetization/pricing, what was the product? Was it like pricing the one-time purchase of a video game, like for a Nintendo? Or was it monetizing additional in-game purchases/subscriptions?

Try to get staffed on the activision Microsoft merger

like

You play WoW?

No, but I played many similar games. Monetizing in-game purchases sounds like fun strategy work to do !!

You need to show the passion and be a gamer.

Current Activision chief strategy officer is a ex-McK guy…

Have a buddy working at one of the big companies. The type of work you’d expect: channel/market analysis, M&A screening and corp dev support, discrete pricing/GTM/portfolio/ops projects. Seemed pretty cool.

My read is they screen more akin to industry than tech. Solid strategy background and analytical skillset will be the biggest things to demonstrate. Genuine interest in video games a + but skillset is much more important. Would suggest knowing more about the market (indie/AAA dynamics, emerging trends in games and hardware, M&A activity, what that company’s portfolio looks like, etc.) than just being a fan of their games. Teams are small but it seems like a good gig.

MBA is also a viable path for entry. I believe Blizzard, Riot, EA, all hire from top schools.

I’m currently a tax accountant with 5 YOE. I want to move into a business analyst role I’ve applied for entry level positions (competition is wild) and willing to get certs. I have great hard and soft skills that should transfer pretty well. Any advice on getting the ball rolling? Should I get a mentor? I’ve seen a lot of layoffs too which kind of makes me wonder if it’s worth it.

I’m a female CAD employee working for a US company. I was poached from a competitor a couple of years ago and was offered more than my male colleague (US based) at the time of the offer so my boss brought him up after the fact to ensure fairness. He started a couple weeks before me. Fast forward to now, and my male colleague and I are both being considered for promotions, with me getting a higher role based on my efforts/performance, but less pay in USD terms. Excuse was location is the factor..

Advice needed. I’m leaving an incredibly toxic work environment (admin, students, parents, etc) for my dream job. I already resigned, but my students don’t know yet. I knew if I told them, their behavior would be even worse. How would you explain to the kids you’re leaving? I don’t want my P to know I’ve been hired elsewhere, so I don’t want to tell them I have a new position, but I also don’t want them to think they ran me off (or that I got fired, lol). I’m leaving next week.

Has anyone here successfully exited to pharma after 1-2 YOE? Currently an SA at a small NYC market access firm with a wide range of projects under my belt for big pharma clients. I'm anticipating a promotion to AC perhaps this fall or winter, but I'm at a crossroads where I'm not sure if I want to continue consulting to the actual consultant level. Currently make $100k with a 10% bonus, would I even get a higher salary in industry at this stage? Also might be worth noting I have an MPH. Thanks!

Im currently studying Industrial Engineering with a minor in management. I’m interviewing currently for consulting, and theres a VC course at my school that seems really interesting but I can’t fit it into my schedule without removing the last class I need for my minor. Would not getting that minor do any harm to me short or long term? Im thinking that if I end up at consulting especially no one will care about a management minor they’ll just look at the firm I worked for.

I‘ve been in a relationship for 2 years, and my avoidant tendencies flare up every so often when I feel let down by my SO — e.g., usually when he’s blanked on something he should have done to make me feel more supported in work or social contexts. How do others work through this, if at all?

What is the monthly cost of living in Cardiff which includes rent for 1 bed room, council tax ,Utilities?

My ADHD has been a massive barrier for me in my career. I can’t stay at a job for more than 1.5 years.

My ADHD keeps me from being a consistently great performer. When I manage my ADHD, I am amazing. And when I fail to manage it, I fall short. And everyone then wonders why I can’t do my basic job responsibilities.
It’s frustrating. I am V qualified, talented and capable, but this thing is killing me. Everyone I know is getting ahead and I’m constantly struggling even though I’m ambitious.

Wanted to share some advice for anyone looking at track saws. I just bought the bare WEN 6.5” unit ($145.29) and paired it with the Powertec guide rail set ($119.89) and came away with a solid setup at a (comparatively) cheap price ($265).

I was considering the Makita ($585) or Dewalt ($790) setups since those are my normal go-to brands, but couldn’t stomach the cost.

Highly recommend it!
