Tax counsel jobs seem to be rare, compared to the more common tax senior analyst/manager/director roles. Anyone have any insight into compensation and whether companies put a premium on JDs? Looking at HCOL areas for 5-8 yrs of exp and want to understand reasonable salary bands.

What’s the best way to prepare for a transition to a new company with a new in-house team and a new manager? I have two weeks before I start and trying to get a head start before my new work load piles up. Should I focus on refresher books, or courses for soft skills or technical skills? Are CLMs worth it? Just joined my first in house position; am the only lawyer and currently all contracts are all saved on GDrive with no other organization. My main desire is to get them organized/stay on top of deadlines and make sure the right people know their obligations, but it seems like I can do this on excel. The ones I’ve demoed have lots of neat workflow features, but I’m not sure they are really worth it for the small volume of deals we do. Appreciate any insight!

How are the paralegals in your department organized/structured? What are the pros and cons? We’re exploring the idea of a paralegal center of excellence. Currently paralegals are reporting to the lawyers they support. The disadvantages are that the paralegals are siloed, so there’s no back-up if they’re out and they don’t have anyone who can support them if their work gets too busy. Additionally, the lawyers have a hard time accurately evaluating them since they can’t easily compare their work.

First comp cycle at current job, in July got like a 2% raise in SF which means massive inflation paycut. Is this everyone’s experience? It feels like our HR function is telling us to lateral if we want a comp adjustment even tho boss wants to keep me.

Any insights into Deloitte in house work-life balance and culture? Not attorneys who are being billed out to clients, but those who work internally negotiating contracts for Deloitte (e.g., procurement or sales).

I'm open to JD preferred claims consultant roles as well. I have employment and insurance defense experience, but no big law experience. Any recommendations?
