Anyone have any insight on the comp ranges for counsel roles at the Professional Sports leagues? Do any of them actually pay well, or do they all rely on the “cool” factor to underpay?

Cool factor. Junior to mid level counsel in low 200s.

Cool factor. My experience has been TC below 200k for 7 YOE sand under

Thanks A1/A2-yeah I just got to comp discussions with one and was surprised at the provided range. Though I guess they’re still able to get people to take massive cuts because it’s “cool”.

Interested in working in PE, but experiences align more with the Ops side (3 YOE in strategic value creation). Is there a significant difference in total comp potential between ops and investments roles? Not sure how to make a case to break into investments with minimal DD experience, so thinking about Ops recruitment (Associate). Would also be grateful to learn about potential strategies non-DD focused consultants have used to ultimately break into investment teams.

Hi All..

Having an offer from a service based company (TM) of 32LPA CTC for U4 Band (Tech Lead) with 10 YOE. Is it a decent offer (or) am I being low balled?

Fixed = 28.15 LPA

Variable = 3.15 LPA

Gratuity and others = 74 K

Having a similar offer (with 2 Lakhs lesser in CTC) from a US based product company and which one would be comparitely better?

thoughts on INSEAD? I need to make a decision: got into their ‘21 January intake which starts in a couple of months. This is the cohort that has summer for internships.
Not sure if it’s a good decision to go right now. I’m based out of the US and I’m questioning how much real value add it will be. Plus with the pandemic situation I’m not sure how the job market will be for internships or even after I’m done. They’re also asking for an outrageous €10k upfront fee to reserve the spot!

Do you think it is time to find another job when your PIC is a micro manager, never trained you when you got hired, expects you to know things no one ever told you about in the first place, texts and calls you in the morning with questions you don’t have an answer to (I work evening shift so I’m mostly sleep when he reaches out), assumes the worst about everything, plots against you anyway, lies all the time, they don’t even do their job, they leave their trash behind etc. gives me anxiety.

I recently had an in-house interview for a large company where the screening interviewer communicated the salary range and told me that I had to let him know on the spot if the range was not high enough. The amount was lower than I initially expected based on my research into the role and company so I was a little surprised. What is the best response to this question bearing in mind that I would like to make it to the next round while negotiating a higher salary?

Any strong feelings against going in-house in a junior corporate counsel role? I am currently interviewing at Assurance IQ and Smartsheet, and I'm excited about them both.

FWIW, I'm at a boutique law firm, and while there is still lots of learning I could do, I don't think the niche is a good fit, and all signs are telling me to leave. I'm a 2019 grad, did a year-long state clerkship, and have been at this firm for just under 1.5 years.

I’d like to leave my current company soon (complicated). I interviewed with several companies but no offers materialized (someone had more relevant experience or better fit than I). now running out of roles to apply to. There are a few companies I would have not even considered applying to initially (no industry knowledge, too far to commute, not financially stable) but now feel like I can’t be too picky. Should I just apply to every relevant role I see although I don’t think I’ll be happy there

Is it crazy to leave biglaw after one year for a corporate counsel position? I heard that when Netflix hires outside counsel, it asks a series of questions to determine how credit is given at the firm selected. The goal is to ensure that the “old white hairs” at the top are not receiving/taking credit from the lawyers really doing and managing the lion’s share of the work. Some level of research shows that the real working lawyers tend to be predominantly women/POC who are essentially punished by old school origination systems. Thoughts?
