Yeah, although I’m more familiar with their litigation practice, but it’s a very good local big law shop with a good reputation. All the associates I know there seem happy; haven’t heard any bad stories compared to other similar shops in SoFla. Very nice office too. But, like any firm, it depends which specific ppl you’re working for.
I summered here a few years ago and thought the firm was great. The partners were very nice, smart and the vibe is very collegial and relaxed. Someone I went to law school with has been there her whole career and made partner a few years ago in their Corp group. She really seems to like it!
1) figure out the purpose of the deponent. Are they a fact witness? Damages? Are they there just to authenticate documents? 2) identify any documents related to the witness in question that you would want then to talk about 3) develop a detailed outline with everything you want to know about this witness, both biographically and related to the case that this person might know. 4) do not be married to the outline, it's a starting point, not a checklist. Listen to the witness's answers and follow up where necessary. Good luck.
I do not work at Sterns Weaver but know someone who does. In general, it seems like a good and busy shop. The big upside is that you may be taking on more substantive roles in deals early on; that was certainly my friend's case. The downside, however, is that comp is not up to the national firms, so you'll have to decide whether the trade-off is worth it. That said, you're still making great money in SFla, so it's not like you're going to be in the poorhouse.
