How should I bring up salary hike in a one on one discussion with my manager. The general hike so far (3 yrs) has been about 1%, and would want the hike to be atleast on par with current inflation (I may be shooting a little high:) )

My interview got over on June 29th right after the interview the recruiter called me and told I’m selected and they will be sending the offer letter. He mentioned there will be a delay in releasing the offer letter since merging is happening right now. few days back I sent a mail to HR.. but no reply. and after that I received a mail stating they are no longer considering me for this position. Applied to a job at Nuveen. The online application asks if you've ever been fired from a job. It's a required question so I had to answer it. Fact is I was fired from my last job so I answered yes.
