I’m not big on self help books. But, you might try this: first, make a list of the things you like about your job. Second, make a list of the things you dislike about your job. Third, make a list of the five things that are most important to you in life. Update the likes and dislikes lists. Now, decide if you truly dislike being a lawyer or, instead, whether you principally dislike: 1) the firm where you practice; 2) the people with whom you practice; 3) the area of law you practice; 4) the lifestyle you’ve fallen into as a result of one or more of the first three; or 5) something else. As you think of possible alternatives, only consider opportunities that respect the third list. And, try to find the right compromises regarding the items on the first two lists. If you’re confused, hit me up. I’ll try to help.

Less career-choice oriented and more self-reflection, but The Alchemist was a good read for following your passions, and the book Anxious People for some reason gave me a lot of comfort when I decided I wanted to quit.

Sarah Cottrell is awesome!

I know some career coaches who work with lawyers to help them move on to a new career. Message me if you would like their contact info.

This. Highly recommend the career/life coach approach. Books are helpful, but talking to a trained coach is irreplaceable and incredibly helpful.

The AwareHealth app (for lawyers) is awesome too!

Design Your Life is a pretty good one that has been adapted into a whole class at some law/graduate school programs.

Honestly, I would look for a good/recommended life coach. They are shockingly helpful at helping you determine where you want to be and steps to take to get there.

Any recommendations?
