Definitely go see a psychiatrist, tell them what’s going on, and they will help find a medication for you. I’ve been on lexapro for 3 years and it’s been amazing for me, but every brain is different.
Yep. Lexapro/escitalopram. Started on 5mg. Now on 10. I literally used to avoid people’s emails asking for a status update bc I hadn’t gotten to the task yet. Now I just respond with much less hesitation. The meds help a lot. Although I do hope to get off it one day just to not be dependent on it.
Have you tried just taking supplements? I was taking Calm (got it from Whole Foods) last year and it helped me with some of the anxiety. Not sure if it was just a placebo but got me through last year + studying exams + busy/stressful work schedule.
Yup, for me personally I’ve found magnesium does the trick when I’m anxious. It’s a muscle relaxer, so I take 250 mg in the morning and am able to fight standard jitters easily throughout the day. It’s also great at helping me fall asleep at night when I’m stressed.
I had a severe case of anxiety a couple years ago and it was before my 5th busy season even began. I had a similar struggle of thinking I could handle it myself and I shouldn’t be in this position to have to take medicine daily. I eventually hit a breaking point a couple months before busy season and told everyone I worked with (Partners and HR included) that I could not mentally make it through busy season and was probably going to quit. They actively worked with me saying my mental health takes priority over work and gave me a few days off to go see a doctor and put touch points on my calendar to check in every other week.
I ended up just going to my PCP and they prescribed me Lexapro. Like someone mentioned in another post, medication works differently for everyone and there could be a chance you have to try out a couple to see what works best for you. I was very fortunate and I started seeing a significant impact in just a couple weeks. This led to me staying and I am so glad I didn’t quit because I’m in such a better place now and have grown so much professionally over the past two years.
In regards to taking it everyday, I did try to stop taking it when things had slowed down but after a couple weeks I could tell my mood was shifting back to be anxious and depressed. My doctor explained to me that sometimes some bodies need that extra help to stay regulated and in some instances you could have a perfect job with a perfect family and money situation with no reason to be anxious or depressed and you still will be.
Ultimately you have to do what’s best for you but in my opinion, it doesn’t hurt to go to a doctor and try (and try a couple times if the first medication doesn’t work out). Especially if you plan on staying in this profession and you’re struggling.
I apologize for the novel but this really hits home for me because I struggled through four busy seasons (and “non” busy seasons) and going to the doctor and starting on medication really turned it around for me. I wish you the best and hope whatever you try works out!!!
I had a very similar fact pattern to you where I’ve had anxiety pretty much my whole life. I had just kind of learned to live with it/manage it through therapy, yoga and other calming techniques.
Unfortunately, I had a really bad bout of depression/anxiety earlier this year due to the pandemic and a particularly bad client project. My doctor and I decided to put me on a low dose of Wellbutrin. It’s been almost 6 months and I’m doing so much better. I definitely recommend working with your doctor to determine the right medication. But as someone who didn’t think I really “needed” medication, going on it has shown me what it feels like to not live in a constant state of anxiety.
I hope you are able to find something that works for you, whether or not that means medication. Best of luck!
Wellbutrin is awesome. Makes you feel better and gives you energy. I also take Alexa pro in addition.
Talk to a psychiatrist - it’s sooo different for everyone. I’m on Prozac now and loving it!! Working better for me than Lexapro, Wellbutrin, and Zoloft did
The only appropriate answer is to talk to a doctor about what medicine is right for you — we’re CPAs and our own personal medicine is distracting from the professional advice you need to listen to. You do not ask your psychiatrist for accounting advice.
I would suggest reaching out to a physician 🤷
Medication works different for everyone. I used to take a low dose of celexa daily and it seemed to help me! I eventually stopped cause I didn’t want to be on daily medication anymore
I am prescribed Visteril which is an antihistamine. My body doesn't like SSRIs, the common medication for anxiety. The Visteril is on an as needed basis but I've been taking it daily lately.
Or your naturopathic doctor if you prefer to go that route but I agree with P4 and JC1, best to talk to someone who has been trained in this area.
Marijuana 😎
Marijuana
Propranolol it’s a beta blocker but works wonders for anxiety.
