Anyone have any tips on how to work for someone who gets rude and takes it personal when they have to provide a review comment? ‘Did you even look at this before sending?’

Stick up for yourself were all grown adults, assuming this is a senior doing this to a staff, you’re not that far removed experience and typically age wise... People like this tend to stop when they realize ur not gonna take it.

This attitude from the reviewer eventually comes back to haunt them. If they treat you this way, then they likely treat others this way too. Once enough staff mention it on upward feedback, it gets mentioned to them during review and they stop.

I had a client like this and he is one of my life’s greatest mysteries. He was SO rude. “Can you pull up the form. Read the instruction to me. What does it say? What did you put?”; “how many levels of review did it go through? How did it get missed by staff? Senior? Manager? Senior manager? Partner? Please walk me through how this got missed?”. It would be, literally, the dumbest easiest comments that we might normally get and can fix in a breeze. My conclusion was that their life sucks. They have so little meaning in their life that they find superiority from belittling others and that’s the only way they can feel smart or successful. Every time they gave a condescending review like that, I would just laugh it off and feel sorry for them. I literally would be on the phone smiling and laughing (not obvious through the phone ofc) and just not let it get to me anymore. The rest of my team usually let me handle the calls cuz everyone is so traumatized by that client. I’m on industry side now and clients like that make me put in concerted effort to NOT be a douchebag. People make mistakes, u provide the comment in a benign matter, and move on. No need to get petty about it unless your life is pathetic.

If you can, work for someone else. You should be treated with respect.
