Anyone have bad experiences with in-house recruiters willing to share? I've been interviewing for an in-house gig, and the company's recruiter has been leading me on and blowing their own deadlines. "We'll have a decision by Tuesday!" No update, then I'll follow up, then I'll get another deadline that is ignored. Repeat x3. Is this just (1) par for the course, (2) a bad recruiter, or (3) a red flag for the company in general?

It’s 1. Internal recruiters don’t have a lot of control over the process. If they are responding to your emails the gears are still turning.

Most likely 1 or 3. I think what your describing isn’t atypical in-house but depending how long it goes on may be a red flag about the company

I think it has elements of 1, 2, and 3.

For 1, I've experienced the blow deadlines on job updates many times. Gone weeks/months on end through interviews and between them with no communication. People will always say "we're in a hurry to hire", but that line is literally used for every job.

For 2, there's just some bad recruiters out there that treat people as if they are lucky to hear back. No regard for the stress a new potential job transition brings, so blowing deadlines is no big deal to them.

For 3, I've gone in to one job after having terrible recruitment experience, and you it all made sense once I got there.

My current job, I didn't have 1, 2, or 3 and I'm loving it.

I have worked both in house and in big law. I’ve been far more impressed with the responsiveness of and my overall interactions with the HR departments at law firms. Part of it may be that there is just not as much of a priority to get in-house attorneys hired (they are overhead and usually not viewed as priority hires unless the CLO or someone in leadership is advocating heavily for the hire), as there is for other positions that are seen as more critical the organization - such as those that bring in money or clients or who are otherwise essential to operations (for example drs in a heath system/hospital), etc. For law firms, attorneys are the main event and HR treats the hiring process accordingly.

I hear it’s pretty common for the in-house process. I interviewed for a few roles before accepting my current one, and the recruiter and management were rarely on the same page. When I interviewed for my current role, the recruiter was very communicative, even enthusiastic, throughout the process. I’ve since learned that it’s reflective of the culture here. I’ve only been here 5 weeks but even my wife is already like “I think you’ll be here for a long time.”

Best of luck in your process. In-house recruiting isn’t always straightforward but I haven’t heard of it being absolutely reflective of the company. If you get similar vibes during substantive interviews, and in response to any follow-up questions, then I’d definitely be alarmed.

I am product designer with a fair amount of experience (6yrs).

Recently was interviewed for a Sr. role in Booking but unfortunately, the team finds me better suited as a core individual contributor.

However, I am really interested in joining the team at Booking, especially because of the design culture.

What should be my reasons to accept or not accept the offer from booking?
