Prodco is 10x more hectic, but can be more fulfilling because you’ll actually be making things, and not just making decks. But you’ll also actually be making things, and not just emailing feedback etc. It’s a lot more work and you’ll have to get used to being pushed around a bit. But agency side you’ve got all the politics and crap to deal with that unless it’s a huge prodco, it won’t be as bad. Long term it’ll make you a better producer and better for your career to show you’ve done both.
thanks for your insight!!

I’ve been biz dev at a prod co for years but left for a while to go agency side. (Mid market so small creative agency). Keep in mind this is from a biz dev perspective but I found agency life way more uptight than prod co. More internal meetings. More tense. Also from a client base perspective: agency clients are big brand marketing folks. Prod co clients are mostly agency creatives and producers and I find dealing with those people more fun.
thank you!
I’ve done both and am at an agency now. Boy do I miss production side.
Production is much more of a hectic pace non-stop and might be later nights than you are used to. And might be harder to plan for time off.
But I think production generally treats producers better/with more respect and therefore is a better work environment for full time. I suppose it depends on the company either way.
Have done both and prefer agency side. Find there’s no teamwork in production.
