Anyone have experience selling with a weak product organization?
I'm close to a new offer, but wonder if anyone has had success sticking it out and helping turn things around. Essentially we lack both sales support and product leadership, so the onus is on myself to define the roadmap, but executing that roadmap is outside my control.

It depends on your future goals and how much you want to stay with your present company. This could be a tremendous opportunity to really carve out a name for yourself and likely climb the ladder.

That was certainly the goal, but the challenge feels futile to me. I'm wondering if anyone has turned around a similar situation

Is it a good product? I’ve been at companies with niche products and virtually no marketing or sales support. It’s pretty unpleasant since you’re trying to do your job as the ship is sinking.

It is a good product, but the situation is as you described with no support. It has high performance from our key customer. The challenge is even qualified opportunities are falling apart with weak technical pre sales.

What's easier to sell. Products or Services?

My manager casually threw out that she had an exec tell her it’s fine if she wants to close my division down next year. We are a niche team in a large company. I asked her to clarify as I am worried about my team (and me) she said we would be “well taken care of” as in receive severance…she was so casual about it and said she didn’t know what she would do - we’re performing well, but it’s a small market. What do I do? Warn my team? Look for jobs? I have been here for 20 years w/niche skills…

Any insight on seeing folks move from Sales to SE?
I am a former SE who has been in a pure sales role for the last 2+ years. Could see myself in either role, but depends on the company. I definitely have an above average technical aptitude than 'most' sales people, I like to consider the overall trade offs.
