Anything compensation and benefits can line up pretty well. Not a far pivot.
With ASC 740 there are lots of industry jobs you'd qualify for

Yes I have. I worked in Corporate Tax/ASC740 for 3.5 years and now I work in HR M&A Consulting. Happy to discuss the switch. Biggest takeaways from my experience:
1. Identify things where your skillset is transferable to some degree and pick one you want to do(HR consulting has a lot of work around equity compensation for executives, heavy tax piece goes a lot with all thing comp/payroll)
2. Make sure you’re picking something that if you don’t have relationships in the area there will be people who recognize where you experience comes from so they will understand what you can bring to the table.
3. If you want to get into another group within your firm, DO NOT ask your career advisor. That is the way the firm can get in the way of it. I had a common client with the team I switched to and directly reached out to members of the team and expressed my interest and did my homework on their service. I got them to give me a shot on a couple small projects and they liked my work. Once that was the case and they were on my side I told the partner I worked for this is what I wanted to do and he couldn’t really stop it since the other team wanted me at that point because the only alternative was me leaving the firm.
Hope this was helpful.
