Anyone have experience with FDD at a B4 vs more of a specialized firm like A&M? I'd expect the latter to pay more, but curious if the deals worked on are actually different or there would be a diff vibe at an A&M tier. Trying to get out of audit, but not sure it's worth sticking in B4 since not feeling EY at the moment.

90% of people at A&M are from B4. Deals are middle market PE. If you want to do global take privates and such, probably won’t get those at A&M (mainly I’ve heard international tax teams better at B4). If you are in audit it will be tough to go straight to A&M

I am terrible at negotiating salary because I often undervalue myself. If you are not a partner, do any of the Big 4 have a mandatory retirement age? I have a friend who is working in industry and has been approached by a few firms as he has a very desirable technical skill set. He is in his 50's and doesn't want to make a move unless there is some runway to keep working. He basically could work as long as he wants where he is at. The pay increase would be significant for him to jump to but if he is mandatorily forced out in a few years it might not be worth it.

New consultant here - when people talk about Strategy & Operations, what exactly is the operations side and what do they do? I joined B4 after college in 2019 and ever since working as QA, mainly manual/ functional testing. Can't see any progress work wise in same projects/teams. Before job, I wasn't a complete nerd but I did have some sense of programming so I wish to use that in my real life work in future. Can someone suggest how should I use my spare time so as to not be stuck in manual testing or testing itself? I'm somewhat lost when thinking of career progression after maybe next 5 years.

I’ve been talking to a guy for a few months. He works at a big 4 and will have bouts of silence (like multiple days) in response to anything from pleasantries to nudes. When he’s engaged he’s totally into me and talks about how much he likes me and wants to move things forward and then nada. I love talking to him when he’s present but don’t get the hot/cold. Sometimes he blames work and others he doesn’t address it all. Is he just busy and I don’t get it or is this all red flags shady?
