I’ll get some flak for sure but no, I wouldn’t buy a tag.
2k is a tricky range. I mean you can go lower and get some good options like Seiko. Or can potentially go a little higher and get into Tudor. Maybe a pre owned Omega speedy?
Christopher Ward makes some good looking steel watches IMO. The C65 Trident can be purchased as a GMT Pepsi or just with a brushed steel bezel, I think both look good. For this price range, you can’t get an in-house movements (in a new watch) but nothing wrong with a sellita or eta.
Sinn (556, 856, 104) make great sports watches right in this price range - I love my 556 and it can work with pretty much any outfit from a suit at work to a swimsuit at the beach. WatchBuys is their dealer for the US, so unfortunately you can’t try it on in advance, but their customer service has been phenomenal in my experience.
There are a lot of watches you can get in the price range you listed but for sports watches my money goes to Sinn.
I recently bought a nice steel watch with bands that are easily swapped out for mid $300. They’re a micro brand and produce quality watches since they’re still small. Check out https://drydenwatchco.com/ if you’re interested, they set up a promo for all of us in this bowl FishBowl2019
Check out Monta, Oris, Quartz Grand Seiko, and Pre-owned Tudor.

Just replied this on another topic, but will definitely recommend the same here!
Omega 2531.80, the 90s classic Seamaster
Great versatile watch, relatively thin and right on your budget (~1.5)
