Because they're still living in the dark ages and under the belief that ass in seat is the only way to truly know someone is earning their pay. Ridiculous.
I second this.
Companies did a lot of renovations to spaces and signed leases before the pandemic. They want people back because they’re stuck in a contract or they’ve paid for upgrades to those spaces. Each seat in that office costs money… therefore they need to fill them. Which is why they won’t allow remote work
That’s unfortunate because they are losing qualified talent that way.
Primarily lack of trust, but also because it's hard to feel like 'a team' when everyone's doing their own thing. Personally, I feel like that isn't AS important as making people feel supported through flex work but I've been fought on this
Outmoded ideas from a dying age. Personally I work with a team of nine. We are all virtual and hail from all parts of the world. At no point do I ever feel disconnected. We use a variety of collaborative technologies and connect often. When we get to meet in person it’s a treat of course. Our virtual environment affords each of us a opportunity to frame our creative spaces and control our time. Each of us is a top performer and I dare say that our work environment makes that possible.
There is bonding and magic that happens in person - not to say it can’t be done remotely but it is harder. And when everyone is not remote, those that are tend to get left out or left behind because we move so fast. Plus, you miss out on the water cooler chats and it is much harder to read body language and tone for me….
Most people are still used to working in the same space as their peers. In my company, most are young, so we adjusted well to remote work. The older peeps are the ones who insist on returning to the office
