Soo... the APMM program has 2 cohorts: the entry level cohort and experienced hire one. You’d probably fall into the experienced hire one, OP.

The APMM program (at Google moreover) is an extremely prestigious, selective and very highly regarded program in the tech space. Famous names to come out of it include Kevin Systrom of Instagram. Getting into that program basically sets you up for any marketing role across the tech industry (and probably beyond)...so... I wouldn’t take it lightly...

APMMs are like Google’s babies and Google puts in a lot of effort to take care of them.

It’s an entry level program that they also hire from right out of undergrad. I don’t see why that would be a good exit. Probably higher comp and stuff but you’d be behind someone that started out at Google right after undergrad.

@C1 Kevin Systrom’s Wikipedia page literally says this “After graduating Stanford, he joined Google working on Gmail, Google Calendar, Docs, Spreadsheets and other products.[7] He spent two years at Google as a product marketer; Systrom left Google out of frustration of not being moved into the Associate Product Manager program.[11]”

APM is a prestigious program, APMM is nowhere near as prestigious. Yes they have two cohort but if there’s people with 2 years experience exiting as PMMs why is going in as 1 level below good?

@Microsoft1, you’re really going to quote Wikipedia on us? Okay then.

Also (a) How is the APM program relevant here? OP asked about APMM (b) how does the prestige of the APM program take away from that of the APMM one? Both are prestigious and selective. I don’t want to debate with you on this. At the end of the day, it’s OP’s decision.

@OP, it doesn’t hurt to keep talking to the recruiter. I think the APMM gig is fantastic and is a great way learn the chops via a rotational program. The Google branding does help too 😉

Update: I’ve got a final round interview and am still pretty undecided. There are other roles at Google that interest me more (I’m not married to the idea of working in marketing) but I’m feeling kind of unfulfilled at my current job. Any insights would be appreciated

like

@C1 You mentioned Kevin as an example of a person who was in the program but he literally left the program because he didn’t enjoy it and wanted to be in the APM program.

Regardless my point still stands why take the title of APMM when you can get a Product Marketing Manager position after 2 years of consulting.

Thanks for the helpful insights team!
