A global biotech is offering an AGC position with $400k all-in comp. My main concern is justifying that kind of salary while in house. I feel like in the next downturn they will go after the most expensive employees that don't increase the bottom line, so lawyers will be on the chopping block. Hey 👋 In House 🐟 - how did you learn to sound more "lawyerly" when talking to clients early in your legal career?

How do folks generally go about finding and vetting selecting specialists? Referrals and personal network? Google? Hire an Esquire? Haven’t yet figured out a methodical system to consistently yield good results.

How long does it generally take to find a new role in house (for those already in house)? Obviously this varies a lot based on experience, practice area, how you came across your new job, but in general do folks spend just a couple of months looking? A year? Longer?

Applying for some in-house M&A jobs, and a big focus is being able to run deals. I of course feel very comfortable running deals from the corporate side and managing multiple teams, but have obviously always had an army of specialists in biglaw. How does this work in house? I’m primarily thinking from a tax perspective — I likely wouldn’t be able to structure a deal (and don’t think many of my peers could either) since we always rely on a tax team, but not sure if that is an expectation.

I started my first in-house role about 4 months ago and I don’t think it’s the right fit. I love the no billable hours aspect, but otherwise I miss the structure of being at a firm. How long do you think I should try to stick this out before I move on? I want to give the job a real shot - and i know the transition to in-house can be jarring…but I also don’t want to spend too much time in a job that is a wrong fit.
