Likely switching big 4 firms as a manager shortly and it has me thinking about independence issues. I assume that a number of securities that are green lighted at KPMG will be restricted at my new firm and I’ll be required to sell them. I’d rather not sell as most of them have large unrealized gains. I know independence is largely self reported, but they do do audits. How do they detect unreported brokerage accounts?
