Anyone have people who work for clients who are either young or inexperienced and treat you as outside counsel like you’re their bitch...except 90% of the time they have no clue what they are doing?

As a youngish/ relatively inexperienced counsel, what would be ideal when using outside counsel? Trying not to be this type of client

Quite sure this may illicit some mixed reaction but I send a doc and say “We need to add the exhibit and will include on the next turn but sending this for your review to expedite, per your request.” Response: “Let’s go ahead and get that exhibit in and then I’ll review it.” Ok now that I write it out not awful but the totality of my interactions with this person makes this situation highly frustrating. You are not getting the doc back today which is why I sent it for your review without the exhibit. Now you shall wait. Clearly I’ve had a long day.

Ladies, so proud that I had to share: husband continually asks me to do things that he could do himself; doesn’t appreciate the emotional labor or myriad of tasks I do - so I wrote a side by side chore list of our plan for the day. 😂 Lets just say it’s hard for him to deny my contribution/ask me to do more when my list is longer than his. 🙌🏼

Honestly prob just looking to vent but I would like to know if I’m being unreasonable. I have a very close family member whose financial situation is pretty much getting thru each day. They keep running into issues where they have to borrow money from me. I don’t mind helping but what gets me is: every time it’s time to pay me back, I’m told I have to wait till the next payday but I’m seeing money being spent on recreational things as well. What bothers me most is this person has a spouse.

I currently have an 1800 billable hour requirement at my firm. On paper this means I'm billing 7.5 hour days/150 hour months. I'm looking at firm's that have an 1850-1950 hour requirements - what impact on my work/like balance will those extra 150 have?

I recently lateraled (3rd hear) into a biglaw firm from a clerkship just before the start of the fiscal year (Oct. 1). I’ve been out on a few matters and have worked on some clients, but this will be the second month in a row I’ve billed under 150 hours/month. I’ve been told by partners and associates to enjoy the lull but I can’t help but feel like I’m not being productive. I also feel like if I ask the partner or seniors for more work again it will genuinely annoy them. What should I do?

I recently started working at a firm that does a lot of legal aid. In order to attract more private clients, they want us to go out and do speaking engagements and volunteer work (on our own time). Furthermore, they started asking us to consider doing per diem duty counsel work to bring up our receivables (aka- work as duty counsel and give them our pay). I was so appalled by this comment, I’m beyond livid. I became an associate so I didn’t have to go out and bring in business. (Cont.)

New attorney here, I just started at an attorney at a smaller firm. There are 3 partners and currently I am one of two associates. We have 1 full time legal secretary and one part time secretary assisting her. We have 1 paralegal. My question is what kind of work/tasks are supposed to be/acceptable to delegate to the secretaries and paralegal in order for me to be more productive with my time.

My partner and I are both in Biglaw, but graduated in 2020 during the loan interest freeze and haven’t started paying any of our loans. We both have credit scores of 790+ and make around $450K total. Does anyone have experience with placing their bar license on inactive mode in California?

I'm going to be out of the country until late summer of 2021 and I'd rather pay the inactive bar dues (~$200 compared to ~$500).

I'd like to weigh the pros and cons of this.
- Is there a disadvantage for clerkships?
- Will I have to catch up on a gazillion CLEs or just the ones from the current year (the balance for which I'll be active)?

Would like to get some input!

Thanks.
