I am starting a new role with a new company and will have 6 direct reports. Although I have managed teams before in a consulting project setting, this will be the first time in industry. Any recommendations on how to sharpen my management skills (books, blogs, etc). Particularly looking at how to delegate effectively and practical examples on how to run day to day.
Changing my client domain/industry after 2 years. Is this going to set my career back by a few years? I feel I'm starting from scratch and mayyyybe not getting the best role. Stupid move?

It's great to finally have a bowl of our own! In terms of HCM software, what is something that all of them tend to be missing, aside from a good user experience?
Our company usually does performance evaluations in June of each year. Our pay philosophy is not clear. We usually give a COLA in January each year, somewhere around 2% and if an employee performed well, they get above the 2%. I have suggested we change our process to have a clear pay philosophy with increases tied to performance, with goals tied to overall goals of the organization. What is your process? Are you doing performance evals during COVID?
Any recommendations / watch outs on getting your own health insurance after being laid off? (spoiler: just got laid off)

Agreed to serve as local counsel for another attorney in my firm (different office). Answered complaint and then the case fell off the rails. Turns out firm has a conflict of interest that was missed in initial check, client has been instructed to retain a new attorney, court has ordered us to withdraw and client to produce documents by Wednesday. I keep reaching out to the attorney who I am assisting to ask if I can file my withdrawal and for the name of the new attorney and nothing. (Cont.)

What do you think enables you to work late? Is it understanding client requirements, learning something you don’t understand for a client, too many meetings not enough time for deliverables? Curious
Honest and serious question: how is deferred compensation legal? How can firms unilaterally decide that they are going to defer earned pay for upwards of 8+ years?
How do you deal with leadership who doesn't understand the medium you specialize in, and refuses to do so... But insists that their vision for the client is the only way when there's a better route?
Dad sent me a copy of his 1980 employee manual from Arthur Anderson. It has references to the client's switchboard, expensing telegraph costs and an example of a handwritten timesheet. Epic.
