Screw having to drink alcohol. Working out, eating healthy food and remembering to breathe works wonders!
Just have to get used to it. Put yourself in situations where you have to communicate and it becomes easier. I also make sure I drink alcohol at events to loosen me up a little. Also find a spot to decompress for a little bit. Take deep breathes, get your mind together and get back out there.
Yeah I really feel less confident when I slack off on working out. It’s weird. But just try to relax. It’s just a stupid job. And remember that everyone around you wants you to succeed so don’t be nervous about asking stupid questions (unless repetitive) or appearing ignorant on a topic. Everyone’s on your team. Not knowing something and speaking up and showing people know that you don’t know but want to know is a power move.
Yea I guess just fake it till you make it?
Fake it till you make it is the best advice. Pretend you are confident and take risks by putting yourself out there and then eventually you will find you don't need to pretend/fake it anymore.
Thanks D1! It's so hard ☹️
Associate 1, true. I'm gonna give exercise an honest shot. I am literally so tense at work. My neck, my back, even my jaw smhhhh
The anxiety is seriously hurting my health
It’s hard. I struggle, too
Get out of your head - take an improv class. I’m going through the same thing and the practice helps immensely
Using your index fingers, massage the area behind yours ears and upper sides of your neck - really helps me
Lol Audit Staff OP! You gotta fake it til you make it. Also, knowing your craft well enough to converse intelligibly is not easy but once you’re more tenured, you may find yourself speaking more. We are all in the same boat more or less. I’m still pretty quiet in meetings out of fear I’m going to say something really stupid.
For the record... I hate the phrase “fake it til you make it”. Be true to yourself. If you are nervous be nervous. It’s not about being someone you are not. It’s not about hiding either, all you can do is try. Trust me... it takes time, patience and practice. It’s not going to be perfect to start but you WILL get there. Don’t judge yourself, don’t lose who YOU are. This is a part of you and that makes you great. Toastmasters and improv classes are two things I’ve done that have helped a lot.
BT1- I went to toastmasters twice and got hella nervous to continue. I know I need to go back. I know that's the only way I'll improve, but I'm so nervous 🙈🙈🙈
I’m in Advisory and get super nervous even just talking to my client. I’d like to think it gets better.
Same experienced assoc 1! I literally pray I don't have to talk to anyone
But I feel like I'm starting to come across as rude at this point bc I just can't engage in convo 😩☹️
I'm gonna do that tomorrow. I'm just gonna pretend I'm not nervous af. I'll keep you guys updated on how it goes
