Anyone have success in going in super early (i.e., 6:30ish) and leaving at a decent hour?

No, this rarely works consistently. The work fills the time that it’s allowed to fill, so my experience is you’ll just end up working more doing it this way.

Never leave early is problem. You go in early just makes day longer.

Why would you do this? I leave at a decent hour everyday and just finish working from home

Regardless how early I start, I keep getting hit with the 9pm “would be great if you could handle tonight” requests.

Capital markets people, and I think transactional groups in general, get that regularly.

It works well for work that is less urgent. If you’re a morning person you can handle in morning instead of at night, deadline permitting. Like a long doc review or DD project. Or drafting licensing agreements. For more urgent practices like M&A where stuff comes up throughout the day and you need to handle right away, then you’ll just be going in earlier and leaving at the same time.

I’ve done it since I started working 3 years ago. 0 issues so far except a handful a days I end up having to stay a bit later.

I just leave to office whenever I want. No one cares.

I say yes to late night work and ask can I please first commute home so I can resume working then.

Almost always they say yes.

Side hustle or startup ideas for someone who isn’t technical/doesn’t code? Where should I look or where to begin? I don’t have any strong passions or specific skills that I’m confident in. What books, articles, blogs, orgs, events, people I should follow for inspiration that has helped you? I have some cash to invest and am looking for a part time hustle that can cash flow at least a little bit of money on the side.

I recently took a job with a top tier investment manager, which is a step up in title and responsibilities. I went through the typical “notice” conversations with my current employer. My boss, who was a significant supporter and mentor of me during my time at my current firm, told me that he doesn’t think my new firm is “long term” for me. Anyone ever get something like this before? It threw me off because I was hoping for his support, understanding that it’s tough for him temporarily

Kind of niche question here but under NY CPLR, if a plaintiff files a MTD/MSJ, and then the defendants file opposition papers containing information that the court had previously ordered to be kept under seal, would you a) file a reply asking to seal/strike the opposition papers or b) file a separate OTSC since you’re now seeking additional relief not sought in the original motion?
