Anyone have tips for how to get into the babysitting game as a young adult in the city?

Looking for a little extra spending money, but not sure how to navigate the process (tons of experience babysitting through high school/part of college, but in the suburbs where it was easy to contact family friends and their network)

For parents in cities - how are you handling sitters with COVID at this time? Would fully vaccinated be enough for you, or are you not comfortable with having a sitter?

I am currently looking for a sitter and can’t find anyone … using sitter city… kinda sad 😢

like

I used sittercity back when I was still babysitting for the extra cash. Get one or two families to write you a good review and you'll be turning down jobs left and right assuming you price your services right.

To get started just put any and all child-centric experience on your resume (camp counselor, baby-sitting, child development courses etc) and be willing to take a few one off gigs, maybe for less money than you'd usually demand if you need to, and if that goes well and they seem to love you, feel out whether they'd feel comfortable writing you a review, though this is easier if you've already established a relationship with the family so be at least somewhat cautious in accepting jobs you really don't want (i.e. families with infants if you prefer older kids, families offering insulting wages, families far away etc.)

🌚 I’m almost 8 months pregnant and I’ve been waking up after only 5 hours of sleep to go to the bathroom (can’t hold pee longer 😩) - and can’t fall back to sleep. But then I’m a zombie and need a 2-hour nap in the morning, which is disruptive. Is there a more productive way to do a full night? (Natural sleeping pills? Chocolate?)

What is a useful, comprehensive but not too long of a book for parenting toddlers?

LO is 16 months old, very sweet and social, at the park every day with other kids with either me or her nanny. Not in day care. Yesterday we had a play date and she slapped another baby on the head. Not hard and did not scare her, but the act of “aggression” took me by surprise and I felt terrible about it. I’d like to be more proactive about toddler psychology, what’s to come and how to react/ teach. TY!

Rant: I finally got a baby registry started and sent the link to family... and immediately was told all the things I need on there that I don't have (including things I'm opting to just NOT GET, like an electric pump - why is my nursing preference up for debate????). I hate it already. I'm tempted to take it down, buy it all myself and just tell people to start a college fund if it bothers them.

I'm 38, have had 4 miscarriages and the PRESSURE OF THIS PREGNANCY is unreal.

Getting in my 8th month and starting to feel sore in my groin area. I read it’s because the baby is adding pressure down there. Do you know if it’s bad to do inner thigh exercises? Hello! I’m an LMSW in Michigan with 15 years experience in the field doing case management, supervision, and administrative roles. I’m in a rather peculiar situation. I have been in the HR field going on 4 years, I have over 11 years of management experience, I got my PHR last year and I recently graduated with my MBA with a concentration in HR this month. I am ready for a more challenging role. However, there doesn’t seem to be much available at my current company. However, I am going on 5 months pregnant with the expectation of being out in October. I feel like once I mentioned my pregnancy I was in a holding pattern.

Anyone else having WFH fatigue? I had been traveling weekly for business the last 20+ years, but the last 3 months at home has been personally challenging. I love my wife and 3 boys — but I need some “alone time” which I used to have when traveling. Sometimes I get in my car and go for a drive but it’s not enough. Seems like this WFH is the new working model for the future. Anyone else feel this way?
