Anyone have tips for making a long distance relationship work? After losing his dream job to COVID layoffs, my boyfriend just got a great job offer that will take him 6-7 hours away. We both want to continue our relationship but are apprehensive about what our future will look like now.

Have a timeline in mind for how long you’re willing to be long-distance. It’s certainly doable as long as you know it won’t last forever upfront

Also, it’s important to acknowledge the current economic climate as part of the decision you land on. If it truly is a great opportunity, work with your bf so he can seize it

Are you at a national firm? I got an internship in LA when my bf got his ft job offer in Chicago. It was hard to get it transferred, but after banging on the Chicago recruiter’s door saying I’d accept pretty much anything for a January time slot, I got selected for fed compliance at PwC Chicago. I don’t think it’s super easy to get transferred to another office, but if you’re willing to stick your neck out and would like his city well enough, I think you could make it work. I agree that a Forever Timeline would feel way more overwhelming if you don’t know when you’ll close the gap. Additionally, we always did Saturday date nights and night FaceTimes as needed. Care packages and birthday gifts were always fun to surprise the other with. We met up every 1-2 months, which helped keep the physical need to see/touch each other satisfied. We texted and snapchatted almost daily as well. Still sucked that we couldn’t just chill like we used to, but with all the communication technology available I still felt like I had a bf the whole time.

Are you willing to work at it? And how committed are you to him in general, as well as him to you? It’s natural to have a hesitation for long distance, but if it’s meant to be it’s meant to be, but it doesn’t mean it won’t take work. My now wife and I were 5 years long distance.

OP, I’m in a similar situation as you in that my gf moved 4 or so hours away for med school. Like it’s said above, it just depends on how much each of you are willing to put in. I go see her after each of her exams and we discussed getting together at least once a month (not including anniversary, certain holidays). It’s just something the two of you have to discuss and be able to come up with a plan together. It’s definitely doable!

I should add, not just “make it work” but continue to grow and build our relationship.

hey all, i’m 3 years into my career. some decent work produced, some awards (mostly student). after getting laid off last fall and many many applications and emails sent, I’ve decided to spend time and money on a creative PR stunt to get my dream agencies’ attention. I’ve decided I don’t want to settle any longer, and I’m ready to make the jump to the elite. so people that have made it to their dream agencies: when did it happen for you, what made it happen, and was it everything you hoped for?

Im a BDR at a large medtech vendor that expanded into SaaS complimenting our existing smart devices at hospitals. Sales cycles are long in this industry (min 12mo), but seems our value-add platform is so new to market that it’s taking longer (16-24+mo). I’ve been here for over 6mo and support 3 AE’s with zero pipeline and wins, despite meeting my own metrics to get meetings. Is this complex environment usual for enterprise software sales? Not sure if I’m hurting my new sales career by staying.
