Might be time to threaten legal action/file a claim

Yeah they’re legally required to return it within 30 days of your lease, or they’re subject to punitive damages at 3x the monthly rent. You can contact a lawyer - it helps if you have it in writing that you had requested the deposit return.
This is assuming that they have your updated address and everything.
When my landlord tried to withhold security for reasons they’re legally not allowed to, I contacted the Boston housing authority and they helped me out big time. They had me write a letter and instructed me to send via certified mail so I would be able to have receipt that it was received by the landlord. They also provided me with language and how to structure the note - including a demand that the money be returned in full within 5 business days or legal action would be taken (including the 3x amount option). Money was returned immediately.
thank you all! my dad is a lawyer, so i just sent him all the documents i signed in the beginning (lease, pet addendum, apartment condition statement) as well as screenshots of correspondence about the return address for the deposit, so i’m hoping a stern email from him will be enough motivation. if not, will try the housing authority. 😁
