Anyone have tips on navigating formal mentorship programs?

My assigned partner mentor would attempt to schedule meetings with me and then ghost me when I replied with available dates (this happened multiple times throughout the year so we never met) so then I reached out to the partner in charge of mentorship for my practice group, seeking a new mentor for the new year. However, she has also not replied to any of my e-mails. Kind of at a loss for the next step.

Currently a manager, reporting to VP. There’s a need to fill an open director position, who I would report to instead of directly to VP. I don’t meet the years of experience in the posting, but I have been doing the requirements of that posting in my D2D. I do plan on going to B-school PT starting next year. I want to know if I’m being unreasonable here. More than once, I have given a junior something, told them that it needs to be done by a certain time, and asked them to let me know as soon as possible if anything comes up that might interfere with them completing the task so that I can reassign it if necessary, because it is urgent. Yet I get zero communication and “oh I got asked to do two other things.” ??!!

I asked managing partner to assign me with a very experienced senior attorney in our office who used to be a partner in another firm. The senior attorney has pushed me aside and is not letting me do anything on the file but be on standby if they need me. I’d like to have a little more certainty. Basically, if I am staffed on a matter, I need to know my scope of work. Otherwise I need to mentally check out. Am I being unreasonable?

I feel that as a corporate lawyer, you’re mostly doing the necessary details to carry out someone else’s decisions (= EG the boring part of business). The most "strategic" advice you give is perhaps advising on a choice between transaction models.

Burnout thread. 2nd year commercial lit associate, I lateraled from a large local (FL) firm to AMLaw 100 about 7 months ago for a big salary increase. My hours are actually a bit lower now but I still feel incredibly burnt out/disinterested. Anyone else feeling this? Ways to cope? I love the salary but don’t know if it’s worth being miserable during the work week.

What does the average working person “bill” annually if we applied that concept to other professions/industries? Do we as lawyers work more hours on average than non-lawyers?

What is it about this profession that makes people think it is okay to look down on others - not just people in other professions but also people who are from other schools, other firms, other region, etc. We can be good lawyers and good human beings. Those two are not mutually exclusive...

I am a second (going on third) year, and my imposter syndrome has increase by at least 500% since I got a bonus that is twice market. I can't work at all. I know this is a good problem to have... But how do I combat the imposter syndrome?! I was doing fine before the bonus.

I want to leverage my existing T&E big law experience to one day work for midlaw as a partner, making $300k-$500k, while billing 1500-1700, relying on associates, and focusing on biz dev/writing the remainder of the time. I’d like some degree of separation between work and life, with evenings and weekends mostly reserved for my family.

Is it possible to aim for a setup like this, and if so how should I work towards this goal while in big law and what types of smaller firms should I aim for?
