Same here! Legally married last year but the wedding isn't until next year. We are treating the wedding as a big party instead of a "wedding". Plus it gives more flexibility as we can get a friend to be the "officiant", not have to worry about timing marriage license etc..
I thought the same exact thing about a friend being the officiant!
Do what you want! If you want to have a party have a party and blame Covid. I’d caution just not to get upset if people don’t all come because it’s not the “wedding”
I agree w BCG1, do what you want. We got legally married last month and the wedding isn’t until November
Hi!
We got married in 2016 and celebrated our ‘wedding celebration’ in 2021 (5 years). We treated it like a wedding and pulled out all of the stops. Even went on two trips after!
If people are coming from out of the country, I 100% recommend finding an all ilbcluaive resort in Mexico or the DR to do this!
We love Secrets and Dreams resorts, personally.
They do a great job at weddings and have benefits for the couples who do their weddings! ❤️
We had the best day and truly enjoyed our ‘wedding we never had.’
This is so lovely! Thank you for sharing ☺️♥️
I got legally married in 2017 (small courthouse reception). “Wedding” (we’re calling it a “marriage celebration”) was supposed to be 2020 and now it’s 2023! None of my family or friends have made a single comment, most are just happy to show up and celebrate with us.
For more references, I went to two more weddings like this (marriage to wedding with 1-2 year gaps). So I don’t think it’s odd at all anymore.
Lovely!!! Thank you for sharing 💕
One of my friends had a reception months later after her elopement ceremony and everyone enjoyed it. Do what you and your spouse want!
In the same boat. We had a small 10 person wedding due to Covid, cost, and logistics of family being all over the world. I kinda feel I missed out on the tradiononal wedding experience, but then I look at the current costs of weddings (post covid and inflation) and I feel a lot better about our decision 😅
