Anyone here eloping or know someone who eloped and later on had a wedding? My husband & i eloped months ago & although it was special and fun… i am now having regrets of not inviting parents or friends. For further context, his family and friends all live outside the US , so planning the logistics to getting everyone together was giving anxiety to begin with. Plus the cost of a wedding etc etc. We just wanted to start our journey. Is having a wedding in the future weird if we’re already married?

Same here! Legally married last year but the wedding isn't until next year. We are treating the wedding as a big party instead of a "wedding". Plus it gives more flexibility as we can get a friend to be the "officiant", not have to worry about timing marriage license etc..

like

I thought the same exact thing about a friend being the officiant!

Do what you want! If you want to have a party have a party and blame Covid. I’d caution just not to get upset if people don’t all come because it’s not the “wedding”

I agree w BCG1, do what you want. We got legally married last month and the wedding isn’t until November

Hi!
We got married in 2016 and celebrated our ‘wedding celebration’ in 2021 (5 years). We treated it like a wedding and pulled out all of the stops. Even went on two trips after!

If people are coming from out of the country, I 100% recommend finding an all ilbcluaive resort in Mexico or the DR to do this!

We love Secrets and Dreams resorts, personally.
They do a great job at weddings and have benefits for the couples who do their weddings! ❤️

We had the best day and truly enjoyed our ‘wedding we never had.’

This is so lovely! Thank you for sharing ☺️♥️

I got legally married in 2017 (small courthouse reception). “Wedding” (we’re calling it a “marriage celebration”) was supposed to be 2020 and now it’s 2023! None of my family or friends have made a single comment, most are just happy to show up and celebrate with us.

For more references, I went to two more weddings like this (marriage to wedding with 1-2 year gaps). So I don’t think it’s odd at all anymore.

Lovely!!! Thank you for sharing 💕

One of my friends had a reception months later after her elopement ceremony and everyone enjoyed it. Do what you and your spouse want!

In the same boat. We had a small 10 person wedding due to Covid, cost, and logistics of family being all over the world. I kinda feel I missed out on the tradiononal wedding experience, but then I look at the current costs of weddings (post covid and inflation) and I feel a lot better about our decision 😅

How do you choose a practice for IVF?
Debating between CCRM and a local small private practice (Susan Trout). CCRM is saying I’d need to wait 6 weeks to first retrieval and an additional 8 weeks to transfer; local doc said *entire process* would take 6-8 weeks. That said, I know CCRM is one of the best and has the latest technology… I just don’t want to wait. What would you do?

How did you decide if you should use a wedding planner? Do you have any regrets?

What is everyone doing for bridesmaids gifts? Getting married in December so was thinking of personalized blankets (that don’t say bridesmaid) but not sure if they’ll actually like that.

Sorry if this is a repeat question - I searched and didn’t immediately find it.

Need some advice! Should we update our wedding start time to 4pm so we can have our after party 10pm-1am instead of 5pm wedding start and 11pm-1am after party? We sent wedding invites with a 5pm start time because we have 6hrs at the venue and the bar around the corner said the after party had to be 11pm-1am. Now bar said thee after party can start at 10pm. We can realistically contact all who RSVPd yes to let them know AND a 4pm start time means we still have daylight (it’s a winter wedding).

Comment where you are cutting back to save money. Here are ours:
- Not doing a presidential suite, instead we’re getting a normal suite and using a conference room for hair/makeup/meals
- Centerpieces. We are doing a few bigger centerpieces, then small bud vases at the rest of the tables.
- Transportation for guests. Our wedding is in a major city and ubers are easily accessible.
- Flowers. No flowers for men, only the groom is getting a boutonnière. No flowers for parents/grandparents.
