Chose Accenture Interactive over Mckinsey Digital - was given better pay and bonus but chose Accenture for their tech presence over Mckinsey.

Wow, I would imagine you regret it!

Yes - $ BCG’s offer was $147 at the time for fresh MBAs vs. our $165 and Alix’s bonus upside is much higher than BCG’s until the senior partner/MD level.

I chose Accenture over McKinsey because of location and tech presence

Friend of mine chose a Big 4 over MBB out of MBA. He had offers from 2 MBB’s. For both, when he applied, they asked for several locations, then interviewed him on the understanding it was for NYC. In the end though, they didn’t make him offers in NYC - one was London, the other a smaller Midwest city. He and his wife really wanted to stay in a large city, so it came down to B4 in NYC or MBB London. The London salary was WAY lower, even considering cost of living (particularly since this was post-Brexit so the GBP was tanking). He realized that repaying his student loans was going to be truly awful in London, so given they preferred NYC anyway, went with the B4.

On my return to consulting had an expert offer at BCG and one here. Was a relatively easy decision as experts are second class citizens with no path to MDP. Alix had better comp and a better track record of integrating people from outside firms

I have not applied for MBB companies but I don’t think I will. The only reason is that my experience, and interest is more towards doing tech front office transformations (including implementations) and I don’t think MBB will ever compete in that area with Non-MBB giants.

Chose to stay at EY/EYP over Mckinsey All things being equal I would have gone to McKinsey but it was 22% less in comp

Yes, they wanted to bring me in similar to a post MBA (I don’t have an MBA). I had been recruited for a “manager” (engagement) role.

Chose Roland Berger over Bain. RB's industry focus was more interesting to me and I had more fun in the interviews too (partners we're more engaging and open). There compensation was the same as well. No regrets!

Deloitte (in Australia) over MBB (in Asia) Reasons were better comp, wlb, and location.

@AC1, I was able to negotiate higher pay. Didn’t come in at a grad level but a level higher, so my comp is similar to yours. I had an MBB offer in a different location (not HK) where the comp was 2-3x less than what it would have been in Australia. Furthermore, my local language skills weren’t great given that my primary language of study was English, so I didn’t see myself being a top performer compared to my role in Australia.

For folks exiting to FAANG / Product at start ups or really any hot company. How do you go about networking to get the interview? Do you apply then cold email someone you may have an “in”with, or are you picking say 10 companies and then having warm contacts there that you’ll ping when you see a job. I’ve been passively looking for jobs but zero luck, I only want to leave for the right fit. Big 4 here so feel my brand won’t auto get me an interview like mbb/t2

I’m in a confusing situation and would appreciate guidance - I had an Investment Bank reach out to me a few days ago and we’ve been scheduling “Intro” calls. They’re not specifically using the word “interview” in the conversation. I got yet another intro call scheduled with upper management and honestly don’t know how to prepare? Any tips on how to navigate the situation?

I had a 1st round interview last week and I didn’t love the sound of the job. It’s in higher ed. It would also be a 20k pay cut (105 -> 85). They want to do a final round with me this week. During the interview, the director who would be my manager said they are understaffed and very busy. She also said someone in this role needs to love working. I don’t necessarily want to transition to another busy place for a pay cut. The only perk I see is the time off university staff get and tuition...comt
