Here are my two cents. If you want to use the mba as an accelerator in your current career then you may get a bump. If you want to have the ability to cross sell services entirely outside your area then the mba will help. If you want to eventually leave consulting and your area (ie work in a completely different area) then it definitely will help. One interesting observation. There is a huge amount of debate about whether the mba is worth it if you want to stay in consulting. Especially if you are already experienced. Most people say no. I think it is worth it...because you are better positioned to create new offerings and you are much better prepared to talk to the business than you were before. But would you have made partner even without your mba....probably. Hope that helps
U.K. executive program - London based #2 for strat world wide at the time (basically tells you who it is). The impact is down 250% to how much you put into it during the program. Seen people who just want the title, and others who use it to take themselves to whole other level with networking involvement, etc. basically it can open any door you want it to - but you need right attitude going into it
amazing experience and the most amount of work I've ever done - so only do if 1. Your work schedule can handle it 2. Your company and your boss is 110% behind you
I agree w p1 I had an epic time....granted i called in a few favors and got my name taken off the list of people that could do crazy intl projects. That opened up more time for school. I hit up darden Was mgr when i started Was mgr when i finished Got a 50k raise upon finishing from another firm. That was about 15k more than peers that also got poached Also opened the door to mbbs (they started reaching out) As for impact - its a mixed blessing. Now that my eyes have been opened...i feel that 90% of what we do is just implementation consulting. Very rarely do we actually go the source and fine the real problem before coming up w solutions. Basically my personal bar is much higher now
Thanks, SC1! Appreciate the perspective.
Btw....im not knocking implementation work. Just dont expect to come out with your mba and start knocking out cool strat projects. Most of the time our clients just want something installed and configured and that is fine
I'm Boston based and been toying with the same thought of getting an EMBA at Sloan.
Thanks, P1! Couple of questions...where did you go? What level were you when you started? What impact has it had on your career?
Understood. Actually an SM now and sell both Strat and MC work, hence the desire to assess whether or not an EMBA is actually going to add value.
