Objection!
It really depends on the precinct. The rules of evidence generally don't apply, which means the judge will usually just listen to what the parties say and make a ruling. Most JPs are very common sense and justice oriented. If you don't like the ruling, you can "appeal" to the district court for a do-over trial where evidentiary rules apply.

Ok if I ask a question? Been preparing for a landlord tenant hearing - me and my ex vs landlord. Ex has left me to do all of the work to prepare. She promised to get some things to be yesterday, flaked and I had to scramble today and take PTO to get things to the court. I included her as a plaintiff bc she said she was going to help and bc I genuinely was trying to be kind and help us avoid getting hit with thousands of dollars in back rent the landlord claims we owe. Can i just ask the court to remove her as a plaintiff, and have the hearing without her? The landlord can go after her for all I care
